What we are looking for
We are looking for a Head of Data to Lead our Data Team as we continue to build out our Credit Scoring Capabilities and Data Analytics functions. We are looking for someone who is obsessed with data and understands how it can be transformational in the products that customers can access and the decision making power it holds.
Leading the Data Science, Credit Scoring and Data Analytics efforts of Credable, that would include building internal data management, analytical capabilities, credit scoring and risk management capabilities across all markets. The HOD will be responsible for building, end-to-end, the internal credit scoring capabilities of Credable across its digital banking product portfolio, leveraging data analytics and commercial knowledge.
The HOD will be responsible for overseeing the credit risk management of all products launched by Credable and will also be responsible for building the internal team, capabilities and technical infrastructure to achieve this.
What does the role involve
A Head of Data that is Credit focused, preferably with a digital lending background. Must have experience in credit risk analysis and scoring in digital lending, using structured and unstructured data. Over the next 12 months the individual would be focused on enhancing Credable’s Scoring capabilities for its products ranging from short term loans and device financing for MNOs, to SME lending reporting to the CFO. This Job would have exposure across multiple markets across the continent and multiple industries.
Key Duties

- The Head of Data and Analytics will be in charge of overseeing the larger Data and Analytics department that will be built over time. They will oversee the development of internal credit scoring capabilities, credit scorecards, new data analytics capabilities across the business and manage on-going comprehensive data analytics.
- The Head of Data and Analytics, provides the Data and Analytics department with vision for business-wide data activities and champions for data ownership, standardization, accessibility, and governance. The Head of Data & Analytics is tasked with availing an environment that makes data and information accessible to all departments and personnel across the business.
- Theyalso regulate how the business captures, maintains, and presents data and information on a global level in order to measure performance.
- It is also the role of the Head of Data and Analytics to manage the lifecycle of data and information in order to comply with the business’s requirements.
- The Head of Data & Analytics will also be responsible for creating value from data flowing through Credable’s technology stack and platform.
- The Head of Data Analytics also determines how best to leverage data assets that support the business’s strategy.
- The Head of Data and Analytics plays an analytical role where he defines and drives all analytics and business intelligence initiatives in the Data and Analytics department. The Head of Data and Analytics defines appropriate analytical models necessary to support use cases such as customer segmentation, among others and leverages the power of predictive insights and analytics.
- The Head of Data and Analytics works towards enabling stellar business performance by utilizing not only the data already available to the business, but also tapping into new and innovative sources of data. In this capacity, the Head of Data and Analytics is tasked with providing the data analytics infrastructure that support and achieves operational business goals and targets, has the capacity and capability to develop and implement tools for visualization and data analysis, and is able to provide insight to the CEO on behavior, risk, and performance of products deployed to clients and used by customers.
- The Head of Data and Analytics works closely with business’s IT leadership responsible for data analytics, custodianship, and infrastructure ensuring alignment with the Data and Analytics department avoiding conflicting activities, and availing the most efficient data analytics insights across the business.
- Head of Data and Analytics acts as an authority within the Data and Analytics department, promoting the use of industry leading trends and new data management technologies. They are also responsible for finding data analytic opportunities for the business and ensuring data and information compliance with the business policy and external legal requirements.
- The Head of Data and Analytics would be the key point of contact with 3rd party scoring partners, as well as clients providing data.
- The Head of Data and Analytics should have practical capability to develop score cards, and risk strategies.
- The Head of Data and Analytics should be able to use diverse sources of data to strengthen the score card, including MNO Data, CRB Data, Social and other Digital Data.
- Overseeing the collection, storage, management, quality, and protection of data.
- Hire and manage data teams including data officers, data developers and data scientists.
- Working with the CTO to define data pipeline technology stack, optimizing for speed, collaboration, security, and scale.
- Set a data acquisition strategy that includes data procurement, data generation, and data partnerships with partner organizations.
- Generate, align, and standardize data models used across Credable and its partner organizations.
- Develop standards, policies and practices for internal data storing and sharing
- Identify and establish mechanisms to gather and source alternative data, including competitor’s data for benchmarking and product improvement.
- Develop capabilities for Data Model development
- Responsible for applying data governance framework including the management of data, operating model, data policies and standards as well as the application of clearly defined data management definitions for use across the Data Office
- Monitoring data quality process, identifying data quality issue patterns, applying remediation plans, implementation of data controls, and managing data quality remediation strategies.
Professional Qualifications & Attributes
- Masters degree or PHD in Computer Science, Data Science, Management Information Systems, Statistics & Analytics or any other related field.
- 8+ years experience in credit scoring, senior data analytics or data science position.
- Strong preference for experience in fintech, AI-engine development and credit analysis/scoring.
- Knowledge of how to create and apply accurate algorithms to datasets in order to find solutions .
- Knowledge of relevant applications, big data solutions, and tools.
- Knowledge of business intelligence tools and data visualization software like Tableau, Google Data Studio, Microsoft Power BI
- Knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (Business Objects etc), databases (SQL etc), programming (XML, Javascript, or ETL frameworks).
- Proven track record in operating large data governance programs. Knowledge of Cloud based big data frameworks such as data lake, relational, Graph and other no-SQL databases
- Technical proficiency regarding database design development, data models, techniques for data mining, and segmentation.
- Knowledge of industry leading data quality and data protection management practices
- Knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data protection.
- Knowledge of risk data architecture and technology solutions
- Experience in quantitative analysis, advanced mathematics, statistics, economics or computer science.
